Week Two
Monday 14th to Sunday 20th September 2026
Every week we will follow a rhythm where we’ll be praying for a different theme each day.
On Mondays our prayers will focus simply on God.
On Tuesdays we’ll pray for Exeter Vineyard Church.
On Wednesdays we’ll pray for the Church - whether here in Exeter, in the UK or around the world.
On Thursdays for Exeter and the surrounding areas.
And on Friday we’ll pray wider, for our nation and the world.
Over the weekend there is no set devotion, but on Saturday there’ll be a reminder to take time to reflect on anything that might feel like a God-prompt from earlier in the week.
Monday 14th September
On Mondays we focus on God.
Today we’re reflecting on God as our provider and rescuer.
God sees our needs and provides for us. He knows our troubles and rescues us from them. We probably all have countless stories - big and small - of God helping us out when we couldn’t see a way through.
Reflect on some of these and let thankfulness rise up. He is always faithful and trustworthy.
Most importantly, God saw our need for salvation, our separation from him and his life, and provided us Jesus as the rescuer.
Today’s Bible bible verse, Psalm 42:8, captures the dance of our relationship with him - him taking the first step, lavishing us with his love and attention, and we reflect this back to him in praise and prayer.
Each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me,
and through each night I sing his songs,
praying to God who gives me life.
Tuesday 15th September
On Tuesdays we’re praying for our church.
Today we’re going to pick up on a theme from our ‘One Anothering’ series and pray that we’d be a church where we all serve one another in love.
This means being a church-family where everyone gets to contribute, using gifts God has given them, to benefit everyone.
It ranges from bringing a Bible verse or God-prompt to share, to setting out chairs, to going out to help with children’s activities, to donating some of your hard earned money. There are so many ways to serve, even down to our attitude and willingness to connect with someone.
This isn’t about the ‘club rules’ or even logistical practicalities. It’s about being shaped like Jesus, who, although being King of the Universe, is the one who serves.
Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
Though he was God,
he did not think of equality with God
as something to cling to.
Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;
he took the humble position of a slave
and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form,
he humbled himself in obedience to God
and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
Philippians 2:3-8
Wednesday 16th September
On Wednesday we’re praying for the wider church.
Today we want to pray for the UK church.
There are so many surveys, reports and anecdotal accounts that people in the UK are searching for meaning. We are living in turbulent times and the previous generation’s rejection of faith is now also being rejected.
Today pray for The Church in the UK to be ready and responsive to these new times. That local churches (including Exeter Vineyard) are listening for God’s leading in this new season and have the courage and imagination to obey.
This is what the Lord says —
he who made a way through the sea,
a path through the mighty waters,
“Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.
Isaiah 43:16-19
Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth
and thick darkness is over the peoples,
but the Lord rises upon you
and his glory appears over you.
Nations will come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your dawn.

your sons come from afar,

Thursday 17th September
On Thursdays we’re praying for Exeter and the surrounding area.
Today we want to pray for those in significant need, especially those who are homeless or vulnerably housed and for people experiencing poor mental health.
Every Monday the Crossline team serves a hot meal to people with a number of complex and overlapping struggles. Beyond the mean (which is very appreciated) it’s a chance for connection and signposting.
Also pray for people in our communities who are struggling with mental health. It is such a complicated area, with support services stretched thin. Let’s be praying people will find support and help - and ultimately might discover some peace in God.
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you

Friday 18th September
On Friday we pray for the world.
Today we’re praying for politics.
We all know how politics is becoming more polarised. When this happens discussion, generosity, common-ground and learning all stop. Instead people get entrenched and de-humanise anyone who disagrees with them. It becomes about single issues and easy, black-and-white answers.
This polarisation is on the rise and is being weaponised by all sides of the political spectrum in the pursuit of power.
Maybe we’re being drawn into taking sides too, or perhaps we’re trying to ignore the whole thing. But whatever our personal feelings, politics is an important issue for what sort of society and world we live in.
Let’s pray today for generous attitudes and a cooperative spirit, especially as governments face serious long term issues. Pray for initiatives that seek to open up common ground and enable discussion and mutual understanding.
Pray for Christians in Politics - a UK charity (Andy Flannagan is the Executive Director and lives in Exeter) that brings MPs together from across all the parties - and has had significant impact in recent years on the British government (including the downfall of Boris Johnson when Health Secretary Sajid Javid quit after a sermon on integrity at a Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast).
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

Saturday 19th September
The weekend is a chance to think back over the week.
Was there something that stuck with you? A topic you felt connected with you? Some prompt to do something as a response?
We want to be people who don’t just say prayers, but listen for God’s reply and act on it.
