Engaging in Discipleship
News and talk from Sunday 18th October.
Dave talks about what does the process of discipleship actually involve? Is it more than read your Bible more, pray more and try harder to be nice? Or are we just waiting around with a vague hope that God will zap us into the person he wants us to be?
Taking the Apostle Paul’s cue of comparing our physical health with our spiritual, Dave talks about a way to understand our discipleship growth – what to pay attention to, what to measure, how to engage and so on.
Discussion Starter Questions:
- What process have you done that yielded results? Perhaps a health-kick, a diet, learning a new skill. What things did you have to do and pay attention to in order for the process to work? How might this inform your relationship with God?
- Dave talked about being increasingly secure in five domains:
- Secure in our faith
- Secure in the gospel
- Secure in the church
- Secure in our everyday lives
- Secure in mission
- What did each of these domains mean to you? How do you feel about each of them? Are some easier or harder to think about finding our security in God?
Talk starts at 5 minutes 10 seconds.
