The longterm economic effect of the Coronavirus lockdown is still unknown, but in the short term there will be winners and losers.
Working from home means that many of us are unexpectedly saving money. Things like the cost of commuting, childcare, bus passes, music lessons and suspended memberships. It could be that we find ourselves unexpectedly better off.
While for others their work has been cancelled or closed. The government has put a package together to help people whose income is affected, but some people will fall through the gaps.
So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith.
Galatians 6:9-10 (The Message)
As a church family we want to look after each other. So, following an inspired suggestion from Josh T, we’re going to set up a scheme.
If you find yourself saving money during this lockdown, we want to offer you the facility to help others who are disadvantaged because of the situation. This is family life being lived out. We don’t think anyone should be going hungry or unable to pay their rent while they’re part of our church family.
We are setting up a designated fund that people can contribute to and people can apply for help from. This won’t be instead of the aid and assistance the government has set up, but rather an emergency top up or to help for people who fall through the net.
If you want to help
You can transfer money to Exeter Vineyard Church in your usual way. Can you email Ken, our finance person, on firstname.lastname@example.org with details of the amount and that you want it to go to the Coronavirus Fund. Can you also state whether you would want the money back if it’s not used, or if you would like it to be used by the church for the work we do.
If you need help
Can you email email@example.com and detail your situation and your specific financial needs (how much and what for).
Requests and contributions will be anonymous.
